A new STEMscopes Math study has met Level 3 evidence requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and the core math curriculum from Accelerate Learning is now listed on Evidence for ESSA.

The four ESSA Tiers of Evidence are designed to help districts and schools determine which programs work in which contexts and for which students. Level 3 certification demonstrates “Promising Evidence” that STEMscopes Math has a statistically significant, positive effect on student outcomes.

Accelerate Learning contracted with LXD Research, an independent research firm, to conduct a quasi-experimental efficacy study. The study examined the impact of STEMscopes Math on math achievement across six Texas school districts and included 170 schools and 4,016 students in grades four and five. The results showed a significant, positive impact on students’ math achievement.

On the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), STEMscopes Math students outscored comparison students by approximately 21 points, a statistically significant impact. In addition, STEMscopes Math students were significantly more likely to meet grade-level benchmarks: 77% of STEMscopes students met or mastered grade-level expectations, compared with 69% of comparison students. Results were consistent across student subgroups, including economically disadvantaged, Hispanic, and African American students.

“Educational leaders rely on Evidence for ESSA to find proven programs with solid evidence of effectiveness,” said Reid Whitaker, Ph.D., chief impact officer at Accelerate Learning. “This new study adds to the growing body of research supporting STEMscopes Math. It also validates what we hear from teachers and leaders across the country: STEMscopes Math is making a measurable difference in students’ learning.”

STEMscopes Math joins STEMscopes Science on Evidence for ESSA’s list of effective, evidence-based curricula. STEMscopes Math also received all-green ratings across all gateways from EdReports.
