Sara Flowers of Math Nation presented the awards to Lovett Elementary School students Lemariyo Tillmon (gift card winner) and Alexander Baugher (iPad winner) for the 2024 Math Nation Test Yourself! Challenge

Accelerate Learning presented Lovett Elementary student Alexander Baugher with the top prize — an iPad — in the Math Nation Test Yourself! Challenge, which was held this spring in schools across Mississippi. The sixth grader was honored alongside teacher Betsy Vargheese at a May 15th student awards ceremony at the school, which is part of the Clinton Public School District in Clinton, Mississippi.

Baugher is one of four iPad winners and one of thousands of students statewide who participated in the Test Yourself! Challenge. The competition was open to all Mississippi schools utilizing Math Nation’s digital Test Yourself! Practice Tool to prepare for their state exam. Using the interactive tool, students can check their knowledge at the end of each section, get instant feedback, and explore resources that fill in gaps.

Students earned entries into the Test Yourself! Challenge prize drawing by scoring a 6 out of 10 or higher on each 10-question Test Yourself! quiz. They could earn one entry per Math Nation unit in their enrolled course.

They and their teachers inspire us to do the work we do every day.”

Math Nation powered by Accelerate Learning is a dynamic online resource that helps students master middle and high school mathematics. Utilized in more than 85% of Mississippi school districts, it provides 24-hour access to high-quality instructional videos, workbooks, collaborative learning tools, and adaptive assessments and support. In a recent study by Mississippi State University, Mississippi schools utilizing Math Nation demonstrated 13% higher math proficiency and math growth than schools that did not use Math Nation.
