The National Institute for STEM Education (NISE) has reached a major milestone, certifying its 10,000th educator through the National Certificate for STEM Teaching (NCST) program. NISE, founded by Accelerate Learning, certifies teachers, schools, and districts in STEM teaching.

The NCST is a competency-based professional learning program for preK-12 teachers. It focuses on high-impact STEM instructional strategies that work synergistically across content areas and grade levels. Educators who earn the NCST demonstrate a strong commitment to implementing research-based STEM practices that engage students in critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world learning experiences. 

“Reaching 10,000 certified educators is more than a number — it represents 10,000 champions of student-centered STEM learning who are creating meaningful opportunities for students every day,” said James Vint, professional learning enablement manager at Accelerate Learning and leader of NISE. “The NCST empowers teachers with practical strategies and a clear framework for elevating instruction, helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed in an increasingly complex world.”

Since its launch in 2016, the NCST program has supported educators in all 50 states, fostering professional growth while strengthening STEM cultures within schools and districts. 

“The impact of the NCST can be seen in classrooms where students are more engaged, curious, and excited to tackle authentic challenges,” Vint said. “When educators embrace STEM best practices, they create learning environments where innovation thrives and every student has the opportunity to discover their potential.”

In a 2025 survey, educators reported high satisfaction with the NCST, with 95% of graduates saying they would recommend the certification program to colleagues. 

NISE won the Best of STEM Award for Best Professional Development for STEM. The NCST has also earned recognition from the Supes’ Choice Awards, SmartBrief’s EdTech Readers’ Choice Awards, the EdTech Awards, and the Stevie Awards.
