Background

In October 2022, Accelerate Learning Inc. introduced Math Nation as a supplemental math program across Louisiana. As the program rolled out, we wanted to understand its impact on student performance, particularly on the 2023 Algebra 1 Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP). This report provides an early look at the results, comparing Math Nation schools to others in the state to see if students performed better in Algebra 1. We also examined whether schools that used Math Nation’s Test Yourself! practice tool saw higher math scores. The findings highlight promising trends in student achievement and the potential benefits of Math Nation for Louisiana schools.

Key Findings

  • MN schools outperformed the state average, with 28.65% of students scoring at the Basic proficiency level, compared to the state average of 25%, a statistically significant difference, p = 0.002, d = 0.42
  • MN schools showed a significant reduction in the percentage of students at the Unsatisfactory level (11.37% vs 12% state average), p < .001, d = 0.1
  • Higher percentages of students at Advanced, Mastery, and Basic levels (non-significant)
  • Lower percentages at Approaching Basic and Unsatisfactory levels (non-significance)
  • Significant 5.14% increase in students scoring Basic after using Test Yourself, p = 0.02, d = 0.72
